All symbols contained within each zone are split/broken out into separate columns in the final Excel spreadsheet.

How are zones helpful?

Zones are useful to achieve the following:

  • Remove unwanted areas of a drawing (EG: a symbol legend)

  • Split areas (EG: if you need a landlords area separate to a tenants area and both of these areas are shown in the same drawing)

  • Isolate two different items where the symbols for these items are identical (EG: general sockets and sockets shown on DADO trunking)

  • Partition off part of a drawing that is duplicated on another drawing (EG: there are duplicated symbols on drawing A (sheet 1 of 2) and these are also shown on drawing A (sheet 2 of 2)

How do I create a zone?

  1. Click on the "Zone" tab at the top left of the page (Shortcut to cycle through tabs = W)

  2. Click "Create" (Shortcut = C)

  3. Type the description for your zone and press "Enter"

  4. Switch to selection mode by clicking "Select" (Shortcut = S) until the mouse cursor turns to a crosshair

  5. Draw an outline of the area you require by clicking each corner in turn or hold "Shift" to snap to 90 degree angles (remember, only symbols inside a zone are included in the final quantities spreadsheet)

  6. Complete the zone by clicking on the first corner again or by right clicking

  7. Click "Save" (Shortcut = A) to save your zone

How do I edit a zone?

There are two ways to edit a zone:

  • Right-click on an area while in select mode

  • Click the "Edit" button to the left of the zone in the sidebar

Once in edit mode, you can adjust the zone in two ways:

  • Drag and drop individual nodes to adjust the size and shape of the zone

  • Drag and drop the entire area to adjust its position

What else can I do with zones?

  • Hold "Shift" while moving or resizing a zone to snap adjustments to 90 degree angles

  • Add extra nodes by double clicking on the edge of a zone

  • Double click existing nodes to remove them

How do I delete a zone?

There are two ways to delete a zone:

1) Delete from the list

  1. Each zone is listed on the left-hand side of the screen

  2. Hover your mouse over each zone to highlight it on your drawing

  3. This will bring up a "Trash" icon button. Click on this to delete

2) Delete while editing

  1. While editing a zone, press "Delete" on your keyboard

What are zone headings?

These are headings (shown in the top left) that your zones are saved to.

Zone headings sit at the discipline level, meaning they're shown on all PDFs within the discipline.

Importantly by deleting a zone heading, you are deleting it from the entire discipline, and also deleting all zones saved underneath it.

Zones & Excel spreadsheet outputs

When a job is processed and an Excel output spreadsheet is produced, zones behave in the following ways:

  • No zones - a single column will be created in the Excel spreadsheet containing all numbers / symbols matches over that entire drawing

  • A single zone around a whole drawing, but excluding an area such as a symbols legend - a single column will be created in the Excel spreadsheet containing numbers that are exclusively inside your zone

  • Multiple zones (non-overlapping) EG: one for a “Core” area and another for a “Tenants” area - multiple columns will be created in the Excel spreadsheet containing numbers split according to which zone they exclusively are located in

  • Multiple zones (overlapping) EG: one zone inside another - multiple columns will be created in the Excel spreadsheet containing numbers split according to which zone they exclusively are located in, and also how their zone headings are ordered.
